Description

Maximum storage, maximum hydration, and better balance on your bike: the redesigned H.A.W.G. LR gives you all three. (After all, its initials do stand for “Holds A Lotta Water and Gear.) It features an ingenious lumbar design that shifts weight to your hips for more stability when you’re riding with a fully-loaded pack. It’s also designed to hold a second reservoir for epically long days in the saddle. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, just pull out the integrated rain cover to shield your gear. We’ve also redesigned it with more tool storage and a magnetic tube trap that automatically clicks into place so you can drink without taking your eyes off the trail. The extra pockets on the waist belt keep essentials close at hand, and the universal helmet hooks make it easy to carry your helmet when you’re not riding.

Features

  • The brand new Crux LR reservoir delivers 20% more water per sip while keeping weight positioned low on your back, which translates to better stability in the saddle and on the trail.
  • Airfoil™ back panel is our most advanced back panel providing maximum comfort and ventilation even on the longest rides
  • Magnetic Tube Trap™ keeps your tube secure and accessible when you need it
  • Stabilizing load-bearing hip belts with cargo optimizes a custom fit and keeps essentials close at hand
  • Dual reservoir compression straps cinch the reservoir into the small of your back for a tight stable fit.
  • Rain cover keeps your pack and gear shielded from inclement weather
  • Built in helmet carry hooks and secures a XC helmet while still allowing full access to your pack without removing
  • Carry more water with an additional reservoir comparts that holds 3L/100oz water
  • Separate zippered compartment with gear organizer and tool roll.
  • Additional top zippered pocket has a microfleece lining and holds your media player
  • Reflective accents for visibility in low-light environments

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems smaller I had a 2013 hawg i used it for work and needed a new "clean" one for riding. My old pack i used to carry gloves, spare tube, flashlight and a first aid kit as just my basic load. On the new pack i Had to leave out my first aid kit do to the fact it's hard to get anything in or out of my pack including the bladder. I do like the fact the middle outside stretch pocket comes up higher. I use MOLLE type pouches for extra cargo room, they don't seem to attach as good as on my old pack. It would be nice if you incorporatrd some MOLLE straps on you sport packs and made pouches as well although i use military ones from a local surplus store.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing Hasn't held up for me, with both seams coming out and tears due to the thin fabric in use. The integrated ventilation design has become a real issue, as it becomes a haven for bacteria and this pack requires laundering after every use. Aside from these unfortunate caveats, this would have been my all-time favourite pack, as it holds EVERYTHING i want to carry and more. It is the most comfortable pack i've used to date. It is a shame that durability and the lack of an anti-microbial treatment in the NV foam make this pack the most disappointing Camelbak i have used in the past ten years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Camelbak has become pretty disappointing... I've been using camelbak packs for a very long time now, and always viewed their products as the 'gold standard' for mtn biking...and the company was always great to deal with as well. Now I'm not so sure on either front. I bought a new hawg a couple of months ago and have a few issues with it. First, they have cheapened up the straps and they are a lot less comfortable. Second, the magnetic piece that holds the bite valve came off and fell onto the trail somewhere. Third, and this is more subjective, I like the pocket design of some of the older models a lot better. In another step to cut costs, I guess camelbak decided we no longer wanted elastic side pockets where we could stuff things and have easy access. Big bummer for me. Lastly, it used to be great to deal with the company, they were very responsive if you ever had a problem. I contacted them via the camelbak website about replacing the piece that fell off my hawg (bad design imo), and they never bothered to respond to me. So all in all I think the hawg is nowhere near as good as it used to be, although it probably is more profitable for the company via the cost cutting moves they made that make the pack less comfortable and useful imo.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from We Will See How This Pack Holds Up Well, after using a Camelbak Alpine Explorer pack for 10 years I thought it might be time to pick up another pack since the old pack has become very worn out. I looked at a few of the hiking Camelbak packs and I was not too excited by the designs they have now. Since the primarily use use of my new pack will be for mountain biking I chose to go with the h.a.w.g. The construction is not as robust as my old pack, and as other commentors have noted the shoulder straps are very cheap and the location on the pack likely to fail first. The water reservoir location and design is a good idea, but I also had to remove most of the items I always keep in my pack to get the reservoir in. Perhaps I will figure out how to work with this, but this is a big time waster. So, will this pack last another 10 years and maybe 10K miles of various mountain biking. We will see. Just an aside, I would spend $200 on a pack that will keep up with me on the long haul. No need to cut corners because if the pack prematurely fails I'll be looking at other brands to replace this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Usual Camelbak high standard. I had a few different packs in the past. I always come back to these. I got this pack as I wanted the ability to carry a few more bits of gear for longer days on the bike. It is organised well and fits great. I’ve raced Enduro events with it on pretty rough terrain and it never moves. the build quality is great and looks just as good as the day I bought it. The little tool roll is great for keeping your stuff together too. One of the main reason for coming back is the lumbar reseviour. It sits perfect on your back gives it a litttle support in the process.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clips broke The two clips that cinch the back flap of the pack BOTH broke the third time I used it. Now I'm off to REI to see if I can rig up a replacement. AGGHH!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I haven't had a chance to ride with it yet, but I used it last week while we were on vacation several times and it's a great day pack. Plenty of room for all the essentials and very stable even with a full water bladder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced Original H.A.W.G CamelBak did it again by producing and amazing hydration backpack. I had the original mid 90's H.A.W.G and it finally came to an end. Ordered the new updated version and it is amazing. Lower back pain from biking is not an issue any more the LP water bladders are amazing. Will order the next version when my current camelbak goes down for the count.
