Description

There’s a reason this is one of our bestselling, longest-running packs: it’s got everything you need, and nothing you don’t. The M.U.L.E.® has a narrow-gauge design that keeps it light and maneuverable—so even when it’s fully loaded for a day of mountain biking, it won’t get in your way. The latest edition is built around the brand new Crux reservoir, which is even easier to load and refill, and delivers more water with every sip. Since we launched the first M.U.L.E. in 1996, mountain bikers have been telling us that it hits the sweet spot of size vs. storage: it’s lightweight, but big enough to carry three liters of water and a day’s worth of snacks and gear. Over the years, we’ve also added air channels to keep your back cool, universal helmet hooks, and clever compartments for stashing tools, keys and electronics. The latest version also features a magnetic tube trap that snaps easily into place, so you can hydrate without taking your eyes off the trail.

Features

  • The brand new Crux delivers 20% more water per sip, with an ergonomic handle for easier refilling, and an on/off lever that makes it easy to prevent leaks.
  • Magnetic Tube Trap™ keeps your tube secure and accessible when you need it
  • Air director back panel offers air channels to keep your back cool
  • External hooks let you carry your helmet while still allowing full access to your pack
  • Stretch overflow storage compartment lets you easily stash a rain shell or extra layer
  • Reflective accents for visibility in low-light environments
  • Removable stability belt keeps everything in place during bumpy rides

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the M.U.L.E Such a good hydration pack that provides a lot of space. No problems and I use this for all my outdoor activities. I have been using mine for two years and it's still perfect ! Keep it up Camelbak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very great pack I received this pack for my birthday. I use it for hiking, long biking trips, canyoneering, and more. I love this pack it is very durable and very easy to clean. If I had to buy another pack it would be this one. the only complaint I have is the magnetic tube trap falls out of place every once in a while and gets lost. I recently lost this and could not find it again. but oh well. I still love this pack

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better in most ways, annoying bite valve angle This is my third Camelbak in over a 23 year span. Each one gets better but there are compromises. I love the new Crux bladder fill system but absolutely hate the new 45 degree bite valve angle. The old 90 degree system was substantially easier to use while riding. Sure the new one flows more water but I use it less due to the awkward angle. Otherwise, it's the same high quality I have come to expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It used to be mine.... I bought this pack for myself a couple years ago. My wife liked it so she kept it. She doesn't use it as often as I would but since I carry everything, I got myself the fourteener 24. The mule carries what my wife needs: water and snacks, a jacket just in case, and other small items that she could use. I do wish I should've bought it in another color since she made it hers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well engineered I'm a development engineer that rides a unicycle several miles most days. The M.U.L.E. is a perfect solution for a unicyclist. It doesn't disturb your balance, keeps your hands and arms free, and is easy to drink from. It's very well designed all around. My only (small) criticism is that the bladder is difficult to dry out... This is an excellent hydration system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mtn Biking Pack I bought this pack hoping it would solve all of my storage issues. It did that and more! I’m super happy with all the storage options and how this packs fits me. I’m a big guy and normally struggle with the shoulder strap width and overall feel, this pack feels light and fits me perfectly and it wears really well while riding. I’m a huge fan!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality, just what I was looking for. I bought this a few weeks ago for a long mountain biking trip, the quality and ease of use is excellent. I am glad I bought it and will buy again. I have only used once so far, but I think it will get many years of enjoyment out of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pack Great pack not just for the all day mountain biker but also the modest day hiker. More than enough room items such as camera gear all the way to cycling tools and accessories.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mountain Biking Hydration The M.U.L.E. provides the hydration I need when trail riding for hours at a time. Having 3L of water available allows me to bike harder and longer, especially in the hot summer months, without refilling. I like the way the Crux reservoir system allows me to gulp down water quickly when on the move. I've not had any problem with any of the components and there hasn't been any leaking from anywhere at any time. Overall, I found this pack to be well constructed and free of defects. The lifetime guarantee, even with its numerous conditions, is reassuring. My first CamelBak was a Blowfish and last year I purchased a smaller Lobo yet my go-to pack is the M.U.L.E. It has the same water capacity as the Lobo but I can carry more gear comfortably. Maybe not in the summer but in the fall I need to carry a windbreaker and possibly more as the weather changes in the northeast. I also find the number and type of pockets and how they're organized to be very beneficial. Most everyone I MTB with wears a CamelBak. I would certainly recommend the M.U.L.E. and the Lobo to my friends without hesitation. Unfortunately the Blowfish is no longer manufactured but it still functions beautifully.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Modern materials and design still take a beating After 8yrs or so of 3-4 days a week usage in hot California desert sun to coastal cool fog and rain, the fabric finally started to fall apart. I replaced it with this new MULE. Some of the things that I like about the new design: Pocket design: while the older model had more compartments which I liked, the newer design has deeper pockets. I can keep tools, spare tubes, a pump, and a rain jacket inside the pockets more easily, and the pack doesn't stick out from my back as far. The weight of the pack is more evenly distributed on my back, and doesn't shift the center of gravity so far back because everything lies flatter. The hardware (clips, zippers, etc.) are more robust than the older design. Easier to open and close with full-gloved hands in cold and wet. The pack feels noticeably lighter, and the ventilation between the pack and my back works better for my body shape and style of riding. I have liked the improvements in the reservoir design in every Camelback iteration I've owned. The opening has gotten larger and easier to open, and I've had years of several-times-a-week usage with no gasket or leaking problems. A few iterations and many years ago I had some gasket issues, and was given replacement gaskets as part of the warranty with no questions and no fuss, and have not had any issues with any reservoirs since. Some things I wish were different: The strap for the magnetic clip is only on the right side, and I'm a lefty. I moved the magnetic clip to the chest strap, and that works ok. I was surprised that the shoulder straps don't have a symmetrical design. On both the older design and this newer design, the excess strap length on the waist straps is kept out of the way with elastic bands. On the shoulder straps, the extra strap length is held with velcro bands. The elastic bands degraded on my old pack after about a year or two. I'd like to see the waist straps with the same velcro bands as the shoulder straps. The newer design doesn't have a rain fly. I'm not sure how I feel about this... the fly was useful on my old pack because in cold and wet weather I carried extra layers that couldn't fit inside the pack. I used the rain fly to cover those extra layers, strapped on top of my pack, on my long climbs in the rain. With the new design, I can fit all those layers inside the pack. I would probably find the rain fly to be more cumbersome than it's worth. In muddy conditions, it's kind of nice to only have to clean the rain fly after a ride.
