Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME PRODUCT! I have been using Camelbak products since 2004 when I was deployed to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne. They are all great but this one takes the cake. I used this two weeks ago when I did the Pike's Peak Ascent in Colorado. There is a ton of space for all of your gear. It holds a ton of water and as much food and clothing as you will need for a day's grind up a mountain or just hanging out with the family and enjoying the sights. It fits great and isn't bulky. You forget that you even have it on after a while. I will continue to use this one on long runs and workouts. I couldn't be happier. Quality at it's best! Thanks Camelbak for all of your awesome products. Keep doing what you do!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CamelPak Octane 16x I love this backpack! It is super comfy even when its full. I've never had or used a CamelPak before and it's better than I thought. Carrying 100oz of water is amazing and not having a giant bottle to lug around is the best. The water is kept pretty chill all day. The backpack it's self is the size of a normal backpack. I can fit just about everything I need for a day trip or to go hiking. It has so many pockets too. Love the sunglass pocket at the top, so handy. At this point it has just become my purse. I will never go back!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I had the Octane 18x for a long time and really enjoyed it. I used it exclusively for all of my adventures, running, hiking, paddling, etc. I recently had to send it in for repairs and was sent the 16x as a replacement. There are some slight tweaks to the features, but it still has the expandable functionality of the last model while being light and versatile. However, the fit and the new straps are incredibly uncomfortable. The first run I went on with the pack rubbed 2 raw sores on each of my collarbones. I didn't use it for several weeks, then tried it again, which again left two open sores from friction on my back. The straps seems to have a much stiffer structural component in this edition that just doesn't work for extended periods. Too bad, as I really adored by 18x and Camelbak has always been such a pleasure to work with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet new features! We purchased this pack to replace an earlier edition of the pack... we love the new design, especially the straps. Over the first few uses, we notice that they seem lighter and less constricting. CamelBak are the only hydration packs we trust on our long adventure weekends!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A cautious recommendation This is advertised as a running pack but my use of it has also involved hiking, climbing and MTB’ing in around 60-90F. For this it had preformed admirably and earned itself a cautious recommendation. As with any backpack of this weight and size it wants to be worn high, almost on the shoulders, and the waist belt straps, thin as they are, don't do much more then hold the pack to your body while running. They offer no substantial support, and the pockets are not that easy to get to while on the move . There are 4 (mirrored ) exit holes through which to route your hydration tube: 2 on the side for underhand routing and 2 on the shoulder straps for overhead reach. This is excellent for MTB’ing and climbing but less excellent for keeping rain water out. The hole’s are not blocked, as they are on other packs, and so rain water will get into the hydration pocket (not the main compartment .) There is a small hole for the water to drip out of but it’s not ideal considering that otherwise the back is somewhat waterproof. The back zip up thing, the mesh ‘expandable cargo capacity‘ pocket is pathetically small and wont fit a medium sized jacket let alone a cycling helmet as I hoped it would (it’s also not exactly stretchy). What it does however is zip up with the back when half empty and stops it from having that sad deflated look backpacks can sometimes have. The space offered up when unzipped is considerable, my guess is 3 L or so, and overall, the whole back fits much more then you’d expect; though the small keys and sunglasses sized compartment wont actually fit my glass and can barely fit my phone. The 2 shoulder strapped front-facing slots are terrific and so are the shoulder straps themselves. God knows how long they’ll last, but they actually breathe. Lastly, the color is worth a note. I ordered the discounted lime variant which looks, at least on the Amazon pictures, almost Neon. This is likely a lighting thing because unlike the older CamelBak’s which really were ostentatiously yellow the new martial is much more sensible and closer to lime - green. While It lacks attachment loops, which admittedly makes it good climbing, and the chest strap does loosen up while in full sprint, this is now my main sports pack so it is doing the rest of it right. it’s not worth 120$ but for 60- i’d give it look.
